위의 단어 둘은 우리말로 써 놓고도 혼란스러울 수 있는 형용사들이다. 막상 토익과 같은 영어 시험에서 둘 중 하나를 고르라고 하면, 당황 스러울수도 있는 단어의 집합이다.

 

advisable 은 -able(-할 수 있는) 으로 끝나는 형용사로 "충고가 될 수 있는" 즉 그래서 "바람직한(권할만한)"의미로 이해할 수 있으며, adivisroy 충고의 성질(본질)을 가지고 있는 즉 "충고의 역할을 하는" 의미로 이해 할 수 있다. advisory 의 경우, 명사로 쓰인다.

여행할 때는, 항상 당신의 소지품을 잘 가지고 있는 것이 바람직하다.

적어도 일주일 정도 일찍 좌석을 예약하는 것이 바람직하다.

 

That is not advisable at present.

그것은 현재 바람직하지 않다.

 

It is not advisable to do so.

그렇게 하는 것은 바람직하지 않다.

 

This isn't advisable behaviour for close friends.
