comparative 와 comparable 차이점, 예

 

comparative 와 comparable 은 "비교하다" 라는 동사 compare 에서 왔다.  "ive" 는 -의 라는 의미의 형용사를 만들기도 하는 접미사다. 그러므로 comparative 의 의미는 "비교" 그 자체라는 단어에 "의" 를 첨가해 "비교의" 또는 "비교 자체의", 또는 "비교상의" 라는 의미를 생각해 볼 수 있다.  

 

다음으로 able 는 "-할 수 있는" 이라는 의미의 형용사를 만들도록 도와 주는 접미사다. 그러므로 comparable 은 "비교할 수 있는" 이라는 의미가 유추 될 수 있다. 비교하거나, 비교 될 수 있다는 것은 비교되는 대상이 유사하다는 것으로 생각할 수 있다.

“Brighter” is the comparative of “​bright.”

비교되는,비교될 수 있는 (with), 필적하는(to), 비슷한(to, with),  

 

전치사 with 와 to 는 의미상의 차이를 만들고 있지만 일반적으로 크게 구분되지 않음으로 "비슷한"의 뜻으로 기억하는 것이 가장 단순하다. 

 

The two of them are in a comparable financial situation.

그들 둘은 비슷한 재정상황에 있다.

 

His salary is comparable with that of a successful doctor.

그의 월급은 성공한 의사의 월급과 비교될 수 있(비슷하다).

 

No comparable studies exist.

어떤 비슷한 연구도 존재하지 않는다.
